Cosmology

The Earth maintains a tidal lock with the Sun. As a result, the western hemisphere of the Earth has a neverending day, while the eastern hemisphere of the Earth has a neverending night. Life on the Earth clings to the narrow line in the middle between the scorched deserts and the frozen wastelands.

The Moon is the Earth’s only satellite. The Moon is broken and rotates around the Earth from north to south. Its shattered body and biggest pieces cast the Sun’s light during the first three-quarters of each month.

One day on the Earth is a complete rotation of a planet around the Sun. Daytime and nighttime change due to the libration around the Earth’s axis. Seasons change due to periodic chemical activities on the Sun's surface.

The Meridian Ocean separates two continents—Iphris to the west and Svett to the east. The Moon’s orbit goes directly over the middle of the ocean. The further west one goes, the hotter and longer the days become. The further east one goes, the colder and longer the nights become.

Islands of Naikirin

Naikirin is an archipelago off the south coast of Svett. It is an ancient land now divided between two nations in relative peace—the Sacred Empire of Naikirin and Aetheran.

Kirin-shin is the largest island of Naikirin. The highest mountains, the densest forests, the richest plains, the deepest rivers—all are located here. The climate is mild, with heavy precipitations and a small amount of sunny days throughout the year. There are four distinct seasons. Weather varies from hot and moist on the West to cold and windy on the East. Summers are rainy. Winters are snowy.

Gona-shin is located in the eastern part of Naikirin. It is the second-biggest island of the archipelago. Still, it is much smaller than Kirin-shin. Those lands remained unexplored until people from Old Teran settled there some centuries ago and established a new nation—Aetheran. The weather there is cold, the winds are harsh, the days are short.

Shurao-shin are the southmost islands. They are unexplored, for not a single expedition has ever returned from there. It is believed that some unknown thing lives there even now.

Yakata-shin is a small group of islands located northwest of Kirin-shin. It is a hot place with a couple of active volcanoes and many caves—lava tree molds. The Storm of His Wrath is raging in its middle since times long gone, making a life there impossible.
